Suntory Concert Series Spotlights Toshiro Saruya
The 28th concert in the Suntory Music Foundation’s “Profile of a Composer” series will honor Toshiro Saruya on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Suntory Hall. Each concert in the series presents representative works by an outstanding Japanese composer. Mr. Saruya is one of the artists profiled at this site.

Appointed by the composer Hans Werner Henze, Mr. Saruya presented his composition “Fiber of the Breath” at the 1992 Suntory International Program for Music Composition. The work’s highly original flavor brought recognition to Mr. Saruya, who went on to win the third Akutagawa Award for Music Composition and the third Idemitsu Music Award the following year, 1993. Since then, he has composed a series of high quality music compositions.

In addition to a performance of Fiber of the Breath, the October 1 concert will feature a poetry reading by the celebrated poet and author Shuntaro Tanikawa and the Suntory Music Foundation's commissioned piece for 2008.

Mr. Saruya’s profile and contact information are here.
