On September 1 Suntory Hall began operations anew following a period of complete remodeling of all facilities that began in April. In addition to its new appearance, the concert hall reopened with a new president, world famous cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. At a press conference held on the occasion of the opening of the new Suntory Hall it was explained that three basic concepts had guided the remodeling. These were upholding the historic legacy of Suntory Hall, introducing improved facilities and meeting standards of universal design for the audience's benefit. The remodeled concert hall has adopted a new lettering style for its logo and for the recital hall, the name "Blue Rose," to signify the management's ambition to make seemingly impossible things possible.
