Asia Orchestra Week 2007
-The Sponsored Performance at the Arts Festival, Agency for Cultural Affairs-
Le PRELUDE
The Asia Orchestra Week is a festival of the foremost symphony orchestras of the Asia-Pacific region. The event where you can feel the rich and diverse “present” Asia through orchestral music will celebrate its 6th season this year. 3 orchestras from 4 countries are invited to perform for the occasion as a part of the National Arts Festival sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
HIGHLIGHTS
3 Participating orchestras
The KBS Symphony Orchestra is the flagship orchestra of Korea with a glorious history. From Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, China, the Kunming Symphony Orchestra, a rising star will visit Japan for the first time with LI Xincao, an internationally renowned conductor. The orchestra with musicians from India and Sri Lanka will be an added feature to the already colorful collections of orchestras from South Asia that have performed in the past seasons.
The Asian youth sailing into the world
The Asia Orchestra Week has a tradition of introducing young talents of Asia. This year, KIM Sun-Wook, a 19-year-old pianist is of much note. The youngest winner of the Clara Haskil (Swiss) and the first Asian to win the Leeds (UK) International Piano Competition will unveil his talent for the first time in Japan.
Program intention
Another feature of the festival is the way each program is designed. You will hear 1) a symphonic work of its native composer, 2) a concerto performed by its native soloist, and 3) an orchestral work the orchestra is particularly attached to. Knowing such will double your amusement.
