Tokyo Summer Festival, 2007: "Towards the Islands –Sounds across the Sea"
The 23rd annual Tokyo Summer Festival is set to begin July 2. This five-week long international festival attracts outstanding artists from around the world. Organized by the Arion-Edo Foundation in cooperation with the Asahi Shimbun, it presents a different theme every year, and has been distinguished for being planned and presented entirely by professional musicians since it was launched in 1985. This year's festival will present 11 programs including concerts, folk performances and a symposium on the theme "Towards the Islands –Sounds across the Sea".

Since ancient times, islands floating all over the world's oceans and seas have been the passage route for traders, explorers and travellers. With the coming and going of the peoples, traces of different civilizations also passed by the islands, that became an encounter place where native and overseas cultures blend together.
This year's 23rd Tokyo Summer Festival is rowing through space and time to portray the music of various islands from around the globe.
