Sendai International Music Competition Entrants Selected

A total of 86 entrants from 17 countries or regions have passed auditions for the 3rd Sendai International Music Competition to be held in May and June this year.

Auditions were held in six cities (Vienna, Paris, Moscow, Shanghai, Sendai and New York) from November, 2006 through January, 2007. The successful contenders hailed from 17 countries or regions, the top four suppliers of winners being Japan (30), Russia (18), China (10) and the U.S. (7). The number of Russians selected this year showed a dramatic increase by 15 people over the previous round of auditions for the competition. This was the result of adding Moscow to the list of audition venues this year, according to the competition's managing office. The 3rd Sendai International Music Competition will be held in two parts, with 44 participants vying in the violin division May 20–June 2 and the other 42 contestants in the piano division, to be held June 10–23. The venue is the Sendai City Youth Cultural Center Concert Hall, located in Sendai, Japan.
