Pacific Music Festival 2007
Saturday, July 7 to Wednesday, August 1,2007 Sapporo Japan

Founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1990, Pacific Music Festival (PMF) will present its 18th summer in July 2007. PMF is an international educational music festival held annually in Sapporo and since its foundation, the festival focuses on the education of young musicians selected through worldwide auditions. Applications are now being accepted for Orchestra Course, Composition Course and String Quartet Course. There is no application fee, and for the successful applicants, the festival covers tuition, travel expenses to/from Sapporo and within Japan, shared-room accommodations and meals.

Orchestra Course
The Pacific Music Festival Orchestra (PMFO) will perform under the baton of Riccardo Muti, Philippe Jordan, and Andrey Boreyko. Additional faculty will include principal/soloist/players of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and other players from internationally renowned orchestras.

Eligibility: Orchestral instrumentalists between the ages of 18 and 29, as of July 1, 2007.

postmarked no later than February 2,2007.

Composition Course
This course is for young composers of Asian nationality to work under the guidance of Herbert Willi, 2007 Composer-in-Residence, for the period between July 16 and July 30,2007

Eligibility: Composers with any Asian nationality, between the ages of 18 and 35, as of July 1, 2007.
One work in full-score form, which may be for any combination of standard orchestral instruments, including keyboards, together with a letter of recommendation must be submitted with postmarked no later than March 1, 2007. Audio recording of the work can be submitted together.

String Quartet Course
Tokyo String Quartet will provide intensive coaching, such as ensemble rehearsals, master classes and private lessons for the period between July 16 and July 30, 2007. Each selected group will be required to prepare at least 3 different pieces on which to receive coaching by the Faculty during the course period.

Eligibility: Existing string quartets, whose individual members are between the ages of 18 and 29, as of July 1, 2007. Group application only.
A recording of two works or movements, no longer than 40 minutes, in different characters from the standard chamber repertoire, biography of the group, and curriculum vitae of each member must be submitted with postmarked no later than March 1,2007. The recordings must be done within the past six months.
