Hakuo Yanagisawa is New Chairman of MPs' Music League

 House of Representatives member Hakuo Yanagisawa (Liberal Democratic Party, Shizuoka) was named chairman of the Parliamentary Member's Music League at a general meeting of the organization held on February 22. He will be taking over from former Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto, who had already stepped down from the post.
 The 82-member, nonpartisan league is responsible for proposing and effecting a variety of strategies to promote musical culture through domestic activities and cooperation with foreign partners.
 Toshitsugu Saito (LDP) received the double post of vice-chairman and secretary general, with additional vice-chairmanships shared by Hiroshi Takeyama, Tateo Kawamura and Tsuneo Suzuki from the LDP, Yukio Edano, Susumu Yanase and Katsuhiko Yokomitsu from the Democratic Party, Tetsuzo Fuyushiba and Tetsuo Saito from the New Komeito, Yasuo Ogata from the Communist Party and Hironori Teruya from the Social Democratic Party.
          The league has the following six points as its principal policy agenda:

 Promoting cultural and artistic programs
          (2)
Revising laws governing copyrights and related rights
          (3)
Reexamination of rights to movies and other kinds of images
          (4)
Bolstering budgets and tax funding for cultural programs
          (5)
Developing cultural human resources, improving the status of artists and expanding lifelong education opportunities
          (6)
Improving and expanding cultural programs for children
