Ms. Jing ZHAO becomes the 1st Prize Winner:
The 54th ARD International Music Competition in Munich

 At the 54th International Music Competition in Munich sponsored by the German public broadcasting station, ARD, Ms. Jing ZHAO won 1st Prize in the Cello performance category. Ms. Zhao is one of the artists who is registered on our site. The 1st prize- winner in the violin category was a Japanese, Mr. Keisuke OKAZAKI, and the 2nd prize-winner was also a Japanese, Ms. Akiko YAMADA. Ms. Zhao and Yamaha also won the Audience Prize in their respective category. Audience Prize is a prize that is given to the performer who gained the most support from the audience.

 The above competition has been held every year in September since 1952. It is for young, aspiring artists and it provides an opportunity for them to perform on an international level and to communicate with musicians from other countries. This year, violin, cello, French horn and piano duo categories were held from August 29th to September 16th with 194 participants taking part form 32 countries worldwide.

 Ms. Jing Zhao was born in 1978 in Beijing. In 1998, she made her debut in Japan under the baton of Maestro Seiji Ozawa. She made her debut in Europe performing as a soloist of the Orchestra Filharmonica della Scala with the conductor, Riccardo Muti. Until now, she has performed with many famous artists including Myung-Whung Chung, Daishin Kashimoto (violin) and Paul Meyer (clarinet). She also took part in a chamber music festival in Salon de Provence (France) in 2004 and La Folle Fournee festival in Nantes, Tokyo and Lisbon in 2005.
