Born in Tokyo in 1969, she studied at the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo. She then went to Paris to study composition at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique and received a first prize in composition in 1995. She studied further under Paul Mefano and Emmanuel Nunes. From 1996 to 97 she took the course of composition and musical data processing at the IRCAM where she particularly studied under Tristan Murail. Preceding that, she received the grand prix as well as the Yasuda Prize at the 64th Music Competion of Japan. In 1998 she won a stipend award at the 39th Ferienkurse of Darmstadt, in 2000 the Akutagawa Prize for the best composition for orchestra and in 2003 Art Encouragement Prizes of Japan. Her works are played at a number of international festivals by such well-known orchestras and ensembles as the Symphony Orchestra of SWR Baden-Baden, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Ensemble Modern, the Klangorum Wien and 2E2M. She was represented at the Presences 2000 of Radio France, Eclat in Stuttgart, Gaudeamus Music Week Musikprotokoll in Graz, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Musik-Biennial Berlin, Wittener Tage fuer neue Kammermusik, Darmstadt, Festival of Akiyoshidai. She has also composed numerous commissioned works for orchestra and chamber music. Her works are published by Breitkopf & Härtel.
