Profile
Born in Kurashiki,Okayama in 1979, Kazumasa Matsumoto piano lessons at the age of six from Ms. Atsuko Taniguchi. After winning first prizes at many of the local piano competitions during his childhood, he attained the summit of the 48th National Students Music Competition at the age of fifteen.
He not only won the grand prix at the 7th Japan Classical Music Competition but also occupied high places at other national competitions. He also won the third prize at the 2nd International Young Pianist Competition in Memory of Horowitz held in Ukraine, and consequently participated in the prizewinner concert tour in five major cities in the U.S.A., including the performance at the Carnegie recital Hall in New York.
In 1998, he captured the first prize at the 67th Japan Music Competition at the age of nineteen when he was a freshman at Tokyo University of Arts. From the following year the vivid concert activity began for him at home and abroad, giving solo recitals as well as performing with major orchestras such as Praha Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. He also took part in concerts in Czech Republic and China.
In 2001 he won the 3rd prize at the International Competition "F.Busoni" in Bolzano.
In 2003 he also won the 5th prize at the queen Elisabeth international competition in Brussels.
The release of his 3rd recording "Pictures at an Exhibition" has been highly acclaimed by critics as a lyric, characteristic performance.
He is currently studying at Universitaet der Kunste, Berlin under Prof. Pascal Devoyon, and regularly gives concerts both in Germany and Japan, while appearing frequently on radio and television broadcasts at home.
