Takumi Kubota embarked on her international career when she became the first Japanese violinist to win first prize in the International Music Competition in Munich in September, 1984. In the following year, she performed with Bayerisches Staatsorchester /Wolfgang Sawallish, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in recitals in Trieste, Milan, Hamburg, Bremen, Dortmund and a Munich suburb, earning wide recognition among the European musical circles.
Born in Tokyo, Miss Kubota started playing the violin at the age of four. In 1976, as a high school student, she won second prize in the Japan Music Competition. In 1977 Miss Kubota entered the Diploma Course in the prestigious Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, from which She proceeded on to enter the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna in 1978 to study under Wolfgang Schneiderhan.
Miss Kubota made her recital debut in Tokyo in December, 1984. Following her concerto appearances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in January, 1986, she appeared with other Japanese major orchestras including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
Out of her keen interest for chamber music, Miss Kubota formed Vienna Piano Quartet in 1988. The pianist of this group is Avo Kuyumjian, who has frequently been her duo partner. Their duo recitals in Japan since 1990 were enthusiastically praised for their performances characterized as having remarkable techniques, sensitivity and passion.
Miss Kubota currently teaches at the Tokyo University of Fine Art and Music. From her two professional bases in Vienna and Tokyo, Miss Takumi Kubota extensively travels with recital and concerto engagements in musical centers in Europe and Japan.
