Born in Tokyo. Akie Amou graduated from the National Unuversity of Fine Arts & Music in Tokyo. She was a member of the Japan Agency of Cultural Affairs' opera studies program(8th class). In 1994,on a grant from the Agency, studied at the Stuttgart Music University.
She also completed the Nikikai Opera Studio(34th class). In 1996, she was selected to sing the role of Zerbinettain"Ariadne auf Naxos", conducted and directed by Gustav Kuhn which was presented in Italy including Milan. During the same year, she performed in the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinbergunder the direction of Christian Thielemann, and also invieted to perform in Oslo. Amou was the recipient of the sixth Gotoh Memorial Cultural Prize for New Opera Singers, and winner of the third Queen Sonia International Music Competition in Norway. Amou is a member of Nikikai.
