Taijiro Iimori has held the post of Principal Conductor of the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra since September 1997 and of Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra since January 2001, bringing exciting programs to his audiences. During the 2000 season, Mr. Iimori is performing the complete works of Beethoven (The New Bärenreiter Urtext Edition). And, known as a strong advocate who has made great efforts to introduce Wagner's works to Japanese audiences, the season also includes a semi-staged version of the Ring Cycle.
Iimori has been a music assistant at the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth since 1970. Also in 1970, he won the position of Resident Conductor at the Nationaltheater Mannheim (where he remained until 1973). During this time he won the Education Minister's Art Encouragement Prize for Freshmen (1972), and the prize for Best Conductor of the Season in Barcelona Gran Theater del Liceu, Spain (1972). He has also held the post of Resident Conductor at the Hamburg State Opera (1973-1975) and the Städtische Bühnen (Regensburg, 1977-1978).
From 1978 to 1983, Iimori was principal conductor of the Enschede Opera Forum, and in 1979 became conductor of the Enschede City Conservatory Orchestra, where he currently acts as the Orchestra's Advisor.
