Renowned for her astonishing technique, highly expressive musical temperament and broad repertoire, Reiko Watanabe is one of the world's foremost violin virtuosi.
In 1985, one year after capturing top honors in the G.B. Viotti Competition, she entered The Julliard School on a full scholarship, degree in 1992. Miss Watanabe pursues a career combining highly acclaimed recital tours and festival performances with equally lauded concerto performances with the world's leading orchestras and conductors. The prestigious list of conductors with whom she has collaborated includes Sinopoli, Slatkin, Dutoit, Ashkenazy, Andrew Davis, N. Järvi, Jesus Cobos Lopez, Jansons, Luisi and Pletnev. Orchestras with which she has performed are the Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Oslo Philharmonic, Russian National Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker and the Dresden Staatskapelle.
Miss Watanabe's released her first CD, the Berg Violin Concerto performed with the Dresden Staatskapelle and Sinopoli, recorded on the Teldec label, in 1997. Her latest recording on Teledec, released a year later, was a collection of solo works and was followed by a recording of the Unaccompanied Violin Sonatas of J.S. Bach.
