Dai Kimura was born in 1982 in Ibaraki prefecture in Japan. At the age of 5, he started learning to play guitar, and music theory from his father.
He won the 1st prize for in the grade of the children under 11 years old at the 17th GLC Students Guitar Competition in 1992. In 1995, also he was given GLC award to whom performed the most excellent music. In the next year 1996, he received Ibaraki Prefecture Governor's award and won the 1st prize at the 39th Tokyo International Guitar Competition at the age of 14.
In May 1997, he was invited to Barcelona Music Festival, and given a debut recital in Spain.
He gave his debut recital in Japan in 1999 at Nova Hall in Ibaraki prefecture after he made his CD debut from Sony tiled "The Cadenza", and after that he had a special concert tour until January 2000 with his CD disk. He also made more appearances on TV, radio programs and newspapers, magazines. He started touring all over Japan from September 2000 through March 2001. His second CD "shun-me" was released from Sony in October 2000 and at the same time he had performed together with Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Rodrigo's Concert "de Aranjuez".
In February 2001, he received the "Fresh Artists" award of the 11th Shin-Nittetsu Music Award. He also appeared on TV commercial film of Kissei Phar-maceutical under the contract of 3 years time. He performed with the Royal Spanish Seviglia Symphony Orchestra in their Japan tour. He also performed together with conducted by some Japanese Orchestra.
In March 2002, his third CD "Aranjuez" was released from Sony with the Royal Spanish Seviglia Symphony Orchestra.
For two years from April in 2002, he went to the Royal Academy of Music in London. In March 2004, he return to his country, and in this month, he performed together with NHK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, TOKYO.
