Dogen Kinowaki was born in 1969. He studied flute at Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music with Matahiko Takeda, Shokoku Kim, Junzo Hosokawa and Pierre-Yves Artaud. He had many concerts of contemporary music such as Akiyoshidai International Contemporary Music Seminar in 1992, Darmstadt International Contemporary Music festival in 1994.
In 1994, Kinowaki made "Duo Dogen" with a pianist Mr. Hiroaki Ohi and won the first prize at Tokyo Contemporary Chamber Music Competition. In the following year, he gave a recital with all commissioned programs by Kinowaki to composers who are the same age of him.
He has performed with various orchestras as the soloist such as Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and New Japan Philharmonic.
In 1997, Kinowaki received The 8th Idemitsu Music Award and Arion Music Award.
In 1999, Kinowaki gave a recital "B→C" at Tokyo Opera City. In the same year at "Tokyo Summer Music Festival" he gave his solo concert with pieces by Motoharu Kawashima.
He is a member of "Ensemble Nomad" and "Ensemble Contemporary Alpha".
Dogen Kinowaki is one of the most remarkable flutist of contemporary music.
