Miki was born in Tokyo. At the age of four she began to study the accordion. At the age of sixteen she went to Germany to study at the Trossingen Academy of Music. She won the first prize of the junior division of the International Accordion Competition Klingenthal in 1973 and 1974. In the 1974, she was also awarded the first prize in the duet section of Annecy International Accordion Competition. She studied at the Piano Department of the Hanover Academy of Music with Bernhard Ebert. She is now professor at the Accordion Department of Folkwang Hochschule. Mainly setting her activities in Germany, Miki is invited often to many significant international music festivals. In 1990, for the first time as accordionist, she was awarded the Forderungspreis des Landes Nord-rhein-Westfalen for young artists. She made her Japanese debut in 1977 with Sapporo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Iwaki Hiroyuki. In 1987, she held her recital in Suntory Hall Opening Concert Series. In 1988, she held the recital as Casals Hall Opening Concert. Since then, she continues an annual concert "Mie Miki Accordion Works" in the Casals Hall. The uniquely composed program with her wide range repertoire, such as from the Baroque works to the commissioned new pieces (by now more than 40 pieces were dedicated to her), attracts many audience, and is she now the number 1 'classical accordion' player. In 1997, her CD "Mie Miki Accordion Bach" (Aeolus label) was awarded Special Prize of Record Academy Awards (for Japanese players) founded by Ongaku-no-tomo-sha. Currently, her essay can be read monthly on SUIGYU (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/suigyu/suigyu21/).
