Hiromi Okada is undoubtedly one of the most talented pianists of today. He is heralded as such in his native Japan and increasingly so in the rest of the world. All his recording output has received enthusiastic acclaim in Japan and on both sides of the Atlantic.
Hiromi Okada was born in Obihiro, Japan. He studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and graduated with the highest honours. He entered three international competitions in 1984 ( Barcelona, Tokyo and Pretoria ). He won first prize in all three events. Okada then moved to London to study with Maria Curcio and made his Wigmore Hall debut in 1985. The reviews he received reveal outstanding critical praise:-
"undoubtedly a star of the futureûc" Daily Telegraph
"a technique of massive assurance, imaginatively developed to articulate a passionately engaged musical understanding." Hilary Finch, The Times
Okada continues to divide his time between Japan and Europe. He has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and major Japanese Orchestra.
Okada has recorded a number of CDs for Camerata Tokyo, Toshiba-EMI and Victor. |
