Yoshiko Kawamoto began playing the violin at the Talent Education Research Institute at the age of 3. In 1991 she changed her instrument to viola when she joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and the following year saw her concerto debut at the subscription concert of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. She was appointed a principal violist in 1999 and held the position for 4 years. Since then, she has actively appeared as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as at many festivals, including Marlboro Music Festival in the U.S.A., Davos Music Festival in Switzerland, the Summer Music Festivals in Japan. She was also invited to Tanglewood Music Festival in 1989 and 1990.

She was awarded a numerous prize including the Geneva International Competition Viola Division in 1992, the first prize at the 6th Tokyo International Competition Chamber Division in 1989 (Ygrec Quartet), Grace B. Jackson Award at Tanglewood Music Festival, the Muramatsu Award in 1996, the Fresh Artist Award at the 7th Nippon Steel Music Awardin 1997.

She has been active as a member of Kyoto Alti String Quartet since 1998 and AOI Residence Quartet since 2001. She also participated in the Seven Stars Gala Concert advocated by Myung-Whun Chung, performing in Japan and Korea to high acclaim.

She has recorded with Shin-ichiro Nakano "Viola Baroque Space (Meister Music MM-1028)" and "J. S. Bach: Sonaten für Viola Da Gamba und Cembalo (Meister Music MM-1075)."
