Profile
Formed in 1997, lead by Norio Sato(guitarist/conductor), Ensemble Nomad has been highly acclaimed as one of the ensembles to play 20th century and contemporary music. The members are all gifted young players. As the name of the ensemble symbolizes, the Ensemble Nomad is flexible and spontaneous in programming the concerts, sometimes with guest players. They gave 5 subscription concerts each in 1998 and 1999 at the Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, and participated in the COMPOSIUM in 2000 and 2001 to play chamber music pieces by L.Andriessen and O.Knussen. For the New National Theatre, they joined the premiere of "Faust" ; contemporary dance production with music by Michel van der Aa in 1998. Gaudeamus Foundation/Donemus(Dutch contemporary music promotion organization) invited Ensemble Nomad to Holland Music Days in 2000, and to the festival to feature Dutch music held in Japan in February 2001. Ensemble Nomad is regularly invited to many festivals and the highlight of 2002 was the Pollini Festival held in Tokyo where they joined the Japan premiere of one of Manzoni's pieces.
